Joe Elliott
I am one of the five non-partisan City Commissioners serving you with an awesome staff of administrators, department heads, and employees to prepare us for the coming future.
I believe in America, the greater State of Florida, Sumter County, and us – the growing City of Wildwood! I also believe that we all have the responsibility to be involved in, and work towards, the betterment of all of them. Certainly, we have the responsibility of family, friends, fellow citizens, and the youth who are the future custodians of all we hold dear – now and into the future.
Like many of us, my sense of patriotism, my values, and my motivation began with family. They were matured in the U.S. Army, where I served in both Germany and Vietnam, with other government agencies, the private sector, and finally with NASA. My formal education includes a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, and a Master’s degree in Engineering Management from George Washington University in Washington, DC. My wife, Barbara, and I have been married for well over 50 years and have lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, Washington DC, California, and most recently, 14 years in The Villages – the last eight in Wildwood.
I have served as a Supervisor for the Villages Community Development District 8, as a member of the Villages Architectural Review Committee, a member of the Sumter County Tourist Board, as President of the Sumter Landing Republican Club, as a member of CERT, and as the Charity Director of the Ocala Jeep Club. At present, I am a member of the Florida League of Cities, on the Transportation Policy Committee and the Advocacy Committee, a member of the Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), and a Committeeman for Precinct 129.
Wildwood is a great place to live – I look forward to working with those who will preserve its heritage and transform it to our benefit.
